Birth Injury Specialists
Is your baby’s Nurse Practitioner competent?
Most birth-injury accidents can be avoided with adequate neonatal nursing care. It is crucial however that your nurse or neonatal care specialist is qualified to do the work. Because there is no streamlined requirements list for neonatal care specialists, nurses can obtain this position through a variety of different methods. Most hospitals require that the person has passed the Registered Nurse (RN) program and some require that both the RN program certificate and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN). Other, more stringent places require that candidates have a Masters of Science (MSN) and/or three years of general nursing experience.
In addition to these requirements neonatal nurses are required to have certification specifically related to neonatal care. He or she must have certification as a Neonatal Resuscitation Provider and/or certification in Neonatal Intensive Care Nursing. These certifications are in place to make sure that those working with newborns actually know how to care for the babies in the way that is necessary for keeping them alive and healthy.
And while skill, technique and experience are certainly noteworthy attributes, there is something to be said about the applicants ability to sense illness the way a mother does. This sense of judgment may save lives and prevent long-lasting damage.
If some of these nurses are not careful, someone’s baby could get hurt. Because these incidents of illness can be avoided, it may be a good idea to see what rights you have in a negative situation.
